5 Reasons why I love my Job

It’s Valentine’s week and love is most definitely in the air. Science proves there’s a feel-good factor to be had with love, which goes beyond relationships. From a hobby to a favourite food, even our jobs – when we love something, we are happier, perform better and generally feel good about ourselves.

I have been working with Interlink since Summer last year and can hand on heart say I love working here – here’s five reasons why I love my job in legal recruitment.
  

1. I love the people I work with

Everyone is so friendly and supportive at Interlink.  When you first start with the business, you feel immediately included within your team with a ‘welcome lunch’ to help you get to know everyone.  And working with people from a mix of career backgrounds is as interesting as much as good to help you learn.  I work with those who have previously been solicitors or who have worked in other areas of recruitment before joining Interlink.  Having had no previous recruitment experience myself, they have all helped me progress my learning and I have settled in very quickly.  It was no time at all before I was joining in the frequent jokes with the Volume Services team. 

2. I love the autonomy I have in my role
I have been on the Business Support team since joining Interlink, which sees us place business support staff into law firms across the country.  Not many legal recruitment agencies offer a Business Support facility as well as Solicitor and Partner level recruitment.  Our team is growing with three of us now working on Business Support here, and it makes for a great job.  The day-to-day running of my desk is done entirely based on how I wish to go about my day.  My day can include anything from in-house training to client and candidate meetings – but the variety makes it interesting and I love that.

3. I love the challenge my job brings
There are many challenges in legal recruitment, more than you might imagine!  From arranging interviews on strict schedules to managing situations where a candidate has received a counter-offer, it doesn’t always run smoothly.  But all the stress and hard work is worth it when you see how happy candidates are on starting a new job.  It’s been said many times, but it really is very rewarding matching a candidate to their perfect role.   

4. I love the office culture
We all love to be able to ‘work hard, play hard’ and here at Interlink we get to do just that.  Most recently, everyone attended the Christmas trip to Dublin for two days, which saw us take in the sights and of course visit the famous Guinness Factory for a bit of local ale sampling.  There are lots of other events and activities we consultants can attend such as Ladies’ Day at Aintree.  Working on the Business Support team, I was fortunate enough to attend the Manchester PA Awards in November – my first awards night with Interlink.  It gave me a great insight into networking while celebrating the fantastic achievements in the Manchester legal sector and beyond.

5. I love the generous commission
Having never done recruitment before, I didn’t really know much about commission, how it works or what a good rate is.  Since starting with Interlink and working my way through the company training programme to become a Recruitment Consultant, it’s become clear quite quickly how generous the commission is here.  No other recruitment agency has a commission structure that benefits their consultants more.  And what’s not to love about earning good commission?

Love boosts productivity
Financial incentives aside, if in the workplace we love what we do, our working culture and who we work with, we’re bound to perform better.  Happy employees are by far more productive and that’s good for everyone all round.  Firms can see more contented clients and potential profits increase while individuals may see even better earning potential.  This Valentine’s it’s worth spreading a bit of love!
